CANCELLED! Straus Park Centennial Celebration!

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER. APOLOGIES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE.

Join Landmark West! and the Friends of Straus Park on Saturday, October 3rd!

We will be celebrating the centennial of the naming of Straus Park in a day-long Art in the Park event.  Join your neighbors for Paintings, Photographs, Jewelry, Clothing, Food and Music on Broadway at 106th Street.

The event runs from 10am-5pm and will pay homage to Isidor and Ida Straus.

Bavarian-born Isidor Straus and his Worms-born wife Ida were Upper West Siders who lived in a frame house at 27-47 Broadway, near 105th Street.  They raised six children, and are famous for opening Macy's Herald Square and partnering in the late Abraham & Straus (A&S) department store.  Both Isidor and Ida perished in the sinking of the Titanic on April 15th, 1912.  You can read more about them (and see some vintage park photos!) from our friend, the Daytonian in Manhattan

Straus Park was recently carved-out of the proposed Riverside-West End Historic District Extension II, along with most of the Broadway boundary.  This District will go before the New York City Council Subcommittee on Landmarks on Monday, September 21st.  Details to follow!
